Welcome to my first post and assignment!

This is the front illustration of my greeting card. Since the task was not very specific when it came to the illustration, I thought I would use a subject I find comfortable, which is fantasy. I hope the griffin exemplifies that! Another thing I find really comfortable is drawing, especially with ink or pencil. So here we have a dip pen drawing of a traveler greeting a griffin. I used a very textured paper, which I prefer with dip pen because of the way it creates interest in the linework.

Text Transcript from Image: Hi! It’s a pleasure to start this course with you! I have previously worked with: ink, pencils, watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels. I also work digitally, but my soft spot is for ink and watercolor. Fantastical art is great, but I find things like minimalism, simplification and abstraction difficult.

I can’t wait to make beautiful illustrations while broadening my horizons regarding art!

Thank You!

Sara

This is my first page of sketches. I always do thumbnails and sketches before starting a drawing, and if necessary, I look up references for my subjects on the internet, then create new sketches using those. On the right, I wrote some of the things I wanted to mention in the text of the Greeting Card.

In my second page of sketches, I tried a slightly different composition and figured out the shapes and how they work. But I ended up using a version of my first couple of sketches because they were closer to the viewer. I thought that since the image is so small, the bigger the characters on the page, the better. I also tired a few versions of the text on the left inner page of the card.
